You are invited to join Baxter team members along with University of
Chicago and the Association for Women in Science, as we host 300 Chicago
Public School high school students for a day exploring and creating
personal journeys in STEM. We will be providing a unique behind the scenes
look at University of Chicago’s new hospital, and be connecting with
students over our own journeys in STEM. AWIS and the University of
Chicago are delighted to be sponsoring the keynote speaker Rebecca Skloot,
Chicago author. The objective for the day is to educate and inspire
students in our communities about STEM via our own journeys. The day will
include:

   - Renowned Chicago author, Rebecca Skloot, will discuss her book, The
Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, and describe her 10 year journey to
write the true story of the HeLa cell line. (http://rebeccaskloot.com/)
Lecture underwritten by AWIS and University of Chicago.
   - A variety of professionals working in STEM careers will interact with
the students in small group discussions
   - University of Chicago will provide tours of their new hospital,
   including the robotics operating room

We are seeking 9 volunteers to accompany the students as they move through
the day. Your role would be to interact with them, answer questions, and
provide general guidance for the day. No prep time involved. Time
commitment is 9 am to 2:30 pm.

We are seeking 6 volunteers to lead small group discussions of up to 10
students each. The goal of these discussions is to share your story of how
you are involved in a STEM career and answer questions they may have about
work, college, opportunities etc. You will lead 2 such discussions of 30
minutes each. No prep time involved. Time commitment is 9 am to 2:30 pm.

If you are interested, please register at *ChicagoSTEM
enrichmentday.eventbrite.com by Friday, October 26*. Spots are limited and
volunteers will be included on a first-come, first-served basis.
